Hillier Way scout site connected to mains water and electricity using £32k grant from Rural England Prosperity Fund

In August 2024, 6th Winchester Scouts were extremely fortunate to be awarded a grant of £32,186 from the Rural England Prosperity Fund (administered by Winchester City Council) to enable us to connect mains water and electricity to our site on Hillier Way in Abbotts Barton. The work was co-ordinated by an external utility company and completed in spring 2025.

Before the installation of these services leaders needed to transport water to the site for sessions involving fire or hand-washing, whilst electricity was provided by a noisy petrol generator. Having easy access to water and electricity throughout the year is a huge benefit to the group and will make running weekly sessions much easier for leaders, particularly during the darker autumn and winter months.
